In this book Mahmoud Kianoush, a multifaceted poet, storyteller, and literary critic, sheds light on the genesis of this thought-provoking tale. Penned during his third year residing in England, this masterpiece was meticulously crafted between April 5 and July 30, 1357, before being printed and shared with the world during a short visit to Tehran in Mehr 1358. At first glance, "Speech and Silence" is set against the backdrop of Iran, reflecting the lives of its people during a time characterized by the dominance of power wielded through the manipulation of the obedient majority and the suppression of the dissenting minority. Delving "beneath the surface," Kianoush skillfully weaves a narrative that delves into the individual's quest for truth and meaning amidst a society plagued by ignorance and conformity.
