Tonbak Training in collaboration with Hossein Tehrani
This book is the first educational method for Tombak instrument, which was written by Hossein Dehlavi in collaboration with Farhad Fakhreddini, Mostafa Portrab and Houshang Zarif. In the first part of the book, relatively detailed information about the life of Master Hossein Tehrani, the history of Tombak and the theory of Vazn reading are given, and in the section of exercises, which is the result of Hossein Tehrani’s experiences, these exercises are illustrated by Houshang Zarif.
The tombak, also tombak, tompak, donbak, dombak or zarb, is an Iranian goblet drum. It is considered the principal percussion instrument of Persian music. The tombak is normally positioned diagonally across the torso while the player uses one or more fingers and/or the palm of the hand on the drumhead, often near the drumhead’s edge.
