The Fencing Master Novel by Arturo Pérez-Reverte (Farsi)

Description

The Fencing Master by Spanish author Arturo Pérez-Reverte is a historical novel first published in 1988. The story follows Don Jaime Astarloa, an aging and solitary fencing master in Madrid who earns a modest living teaching young aristocrats in the “age of gun and bullet.” During the hot summer of 1868, amid rumors of rebellion and Queen Isabella II’s forced abdication, Don Jaime meets a beautiful young woman, Adela Otro, who offers him twice his usual fee to teach her a particularly difficult fencing maneuver. Initially reluctant to accept a female student, Don Jaime is intrigued by Adela’s extensive knowledge of fencing and a mysterious scar on her lip. As lessons progress, the fencing master finds himself drawn to his new pupil, setting the stage for a story of intrigue, suspense, and unexpected passion in a turbulent historical moment.
