Short Plays by Vladimir Mayakovsky contains six short plays written mostly in the aftermath of the October Revolution. These plays are all in verse and carry strong propagandistic elements, reflecting Mayakovsky’s view of theatre as a tool as urgent and impactful as a weapon on the battlefield. Departing from traditional avant-garde approaches, he makes humans the central agents of action, emphasizing dynamic, revolutionary engagement. This volume is the first in the “Inverted Theatre” series, showcasing Mayakovsky’s experimental stagecraft, bold social critique, and innovative fusion of poetry and drama.
