The "Shahrzad" music album by Alireza Mashayekhi is part of the composer's continuous exploration of Iranian music. The album responds to a question Mashayekhi has long pondered: What would have happened to Iranian music if it had not fallen into a centuries-long slumber? This period of neglect has left gaps in the true understanding of how long the art form was dormant. Through an imagined journey, Mashayekhi reflects on the potential for the evolution and expansion of Iranian music. This exploration is materialized in a five-part collection for piano, which includes: Short Stories Opus 113, Crystal No. 1 and 2 Opus 111, In Search of Lost Time Opus 110, and Shahrzad Opus 115. The album Shahrzad itself is not just a retelling of the famous story of Scheherazade, the storyteller. Instead, it offers a deeper analysis of how someone becomes like Scheherazade.
