Mousa Maroufi

Mousa Maroufi (born 1268 in Tehran – died 7 September 1344 in Tehran) was a musician, string player, teacher and collector of Iranian music. He was the father of Javad Maroufi. He was born in 1268 in a religious and music-loving family in Tehran. He was the son of Mohammad Ismail Khan Amin al-Mulk and the nephew of Mirza Ali Asghar Atabak, the prime ministers of Nasser al-Din Shah and Muzaffar al-Din Shah.  Then he used the presence of the masters of that time, including Darvish Khan. With a lot of perseverance and practice, he reached a level of music that won the “Golden Ax” award from Darvish Khan. He also studied “note” with “Hossein Hongafarin”. In 1330, the book “Preliminary Grammar of Taar and Setaar” was compiled and published by Musa Maroofi, Nasrullah Zarrineh Panjeh and Ruhollah Khaleghi for the first year of the National Conservatory of Music. He added to what he had learned.
