"Planet of Exile" is a science fiction novel written by Ursula K. Le Guin. It was first published in 1966 and is part of her Hainish Cycle, a series of loosely connected novels and stories set in a shared universe. The story is set on the planet Werel, which has a peculiar orbit that causes long, harsh winters and short, scorching summers. Two humanoid races, the nomadic and dark-skinned Tevarans and the city-dwelling, light-skinned Gaalians, coexist on this challenging world. As the planet approaches its harsh winter, the two races must come together to survive the impending threat from an outside force: the arrival of a fleet of a third humanoid race, the more advanced and technologically sophisticated Ekumen.
