Make Your Bed by William H. McRaven
“On May 17, 2014, I was honored to speak at the University of Texas Student Graduation Ceremony in Austin,” the author states in the book’s introduction. Although I was a graduate of the same university, I did not know that a war general who had spent his career in the war would be well received by college students. But I was very surprised to see those who eagerly came to listen to my lectures. The ten lessons I learned in naval training that formed the basis of my talk seemed to have caught the attention of many.
William H. McRaven
William Harry McRaven is a retired United States Navy four-star admiral who served as the ninth commander of the United States Special Operations Command from August 8, 2011 to August 28, 2014. McRaven previously served from June 13, 2008, to August 2011 as commander of Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) and from June 2006 to March 2008 as commander of Special Operations Command Europe (SOCEUR). In addition to his duties as COMSOCEUR, he was designated as the first director of the NATO Special Operations Forces Coordination Centre (NSCC), where he was charged with enhancing the capabilities and inter-operability of all NATO Special Operations Forces. McRaven retired from the U.S. Navy on August 28, 2014, after more than 37 years of service. McRaven was named as a possible choice to be nominated as U.S. Secretary of Defense by President-elect Joe Biden. However, Biden nominated retired general Lloyd Austin.
