Persian Tombak

The tompak, also tombak, donbak, dombak or zarb, in Afghanistan zer baghali, is a goblet drum from Persia. It is considered the principal percussion instrument of Persian music. The history of Tonbak dates back to pre-Islamic times with the Pahlavi letters of Dembelek, and according to Dr. Moin Dembelek, it is a modified form of the same name. According to some old Iranian musicians such as Farabi, Tonbak is the birthplace of western Iran. Tonbak has made significant progress in recent decades and has even emerged as an independent instrument for solo.
