Description

By the dawn of the 20th century, Iran was collapsing due to the crisis. Iran had lost its economic and political independence to the Russian and British empires, as a prosperous absolute monarchy had pushed the country deeper and deeper into debt. Some intellectuals considered the rule of law to be the solution to this problem, and finally their ideas were put forward by a broad coalition of businessmen, clerics, and industrialists.
