"How Did the West Become the West?" by Sadegh Zibakalam explores the transformation of the West from a symbol of imperialism and exploitation for some to a cradle of civilization and culture for others. However, both groups share one common point: the contemporary West holds a superior position politically, economically, and perhaps socially compared to the rest of the world, especially the Third World countries. But how did the West reach this position? Was it the result of colonialism or does it follow an evolutionary process that needs to be traced in history? Zibakalam believes in the latter option, attributing the current progress of the West to a historical evolutionary trend that began in the 14th century and continued until the 18th century.
