Farsi Commentary on Shahnameh (Volume Four): A Critical Edition with Line-by-Line Notes Edited by Mehri Behfar

Description

Volume Four of Ferdowsi’s Shahnameh: From the Reign of Kai Kavoos to the Story of Sohrab, edited by Mehri Behfar, presents a critical edition with line-by-line commentary. Each verse is analyzed individually, with grammatical details, etymology from Avestan or Middle Persian, and explanations of metaphorical, figurative, and idiomatic expressions. Characters and events are examined in comparison with other texts, and the meaning of every verse is clarified. Unlike other commentaries, no verse is left unexplained, making even difficult passages accessible. This meticulous approach allows readers to gain a comprehensive understanding of the epic without consulting multiple sources. Behfar’s edition provides a complete, authoritative resource for both scholars and devoted readers of Shahnameh.
