Endgame Book by Samuel Beckett (Farsi Edition)

Description

Endgame by Samuel Beckett is a powerful one-act play and one of the defining works of the Theatre of the Absurd. First performed in 1957, the play takes place in a bleak, isolated shelter in a seemingly post-apocalyptic world, where four characters confront physical decline, dependency, loneliness, repetition, and the approaching end of their existence. At the center of the play are Hamm, a blind and paralyzed elderly man, and Clov, his servant and companion who is unable to sit down. Hamm's elderly parents, Nagg and Nell, live in garbage bins within the same confined space. Their strange routines, repetitive conversations, conflicts, and attempts to find meaning create a darkly comic and deeply unsettling portrait of human existence. Through minimalist staging, fragmented dialogue, silence, repetition, dark humor, and existential uncertainty, Beckett explores themes of mortality, isolation, dependence, suffering, meaninglessness, and the passage of time. The title itself evokes the endgame stage of a chess match, reinforcing the play's sense of an inevitable conclusion. Endgame is an essential work of modern drama and a landmark of twentieth-century experimental theatre.
