Chile: The Other September 11 by Ariel Dorfman is a powerful reflection on the tragic events that took place in Chile on September 11, 1973, when the military, led by General Augusto Pinochet, overthrew the democratically elected government of President Salvador Allende. Dorfman, a prominent Chilean writer and intellectual, uses this book to examine the deep psychological and political impacts of the coup, comparing it to the September 11 attacks in the United States in 2001, emphasizing how both events marked significant turning points in the history of their respective nations. In this book, Dorfman blends personal narrative with historical analysis to reflect on the lasting consequences of the military dictatorship in Chile.
