If the Safavid dynasty had not been destroyed, the future of Iran probably would not have changed much. In part of the book we read: “The Safavid era is in some respects an example of Ibn Khaldun’s famous historical tide theory of the premodern states of the Middle East. The Safavid Empire is a better example of the Ottoman Empire in terms of its short life and sudden fall, and in terms of religious inspiration it helps its emergence and laziness. Its fall is more like the Mongol Empire.
