The Killer (also known as The Killer Without Wages) by Eugène Ionesco is a dark absurdist drama set between Paris and London. The play follows Bérenger, a conscientious citizen who discovers that a mysterious, motiveless killer is terrorizing the so-called “Radiant City,” shattering his faith in progress and rational order. Determined to confront the murderer, Bérenger embarks on a futile quest for justice. When he finally faces the killer, he attempts to reason with him, only to encounter silence and irrationality. Echoing existential anxieties reminiscent of Kafka, Ionesco explores evil, moral helplessness, and the absurdity of seeking logic in a fundamentally illogical world.
