"The White Castle" is set in the 17th century and follows the story of a young Italian scholar who is captured by Ottoman pirates while traveling from Venice to Naples. He is taken to Istanbul and sold into slavery. His master, Hoja, is a brilliant yet enigmatic scientist and scholar who bears a striking resemblance to him. The Italian slave and Hoja engage in a complex relationship, oscillating between mutual respect and deep-seated rivalry. As they collaborate on various scientific projects, including creating an astronomical clock and preparing a military campaign against the Poles, the two men exchange knowledge and personal stories. This intellectual partnership is underpinned by a growing tension as they explore and exploit their physical and intellectual similarities.
