In his novel The Mysterious Flame of Queen Luana, Umberto Eco explores issues such as memory, identity, love, history, and culture in a mysterious plot. Yambo, a seller of old books, loses his memory due to a stroke. He remembers the books he has read, but is unable to recall the moments and memories of his life. The story is told from a first-person perspective, and the audience must find clues about Yambo's personality and past from the way he narrates, his vocabulary, and his scattered references to various things. In the same way that Eco meticulously explains scientific topics in detail in many of his stories and correctly places them in the story, in this book he also addresses the issue of memory and aspects of psychology, which makes the pseudo-scientific story and at the same time anecdote seem very logical and believable. The story contains frequent references to fictional works and historical events, and through this, a representation of the cultural and historical situation of Italy is opened to the reader, which adds to the appeal of the book The Mysterious Flame of Queen Luana.
