The story revolves around four main characters. Dr. Montag hopes to find scientific evidence of the existence of the supernatural. He rents Hill House for a summer and invites a few people he has chosen for their experiences with paranormal events as his guests. Of these, only Eleanor and Theodora accept. They travel to the house, where Eleanor and Theodora live in seclusion with Montag and Luke. Dr. Montag is a paranormal scientist searching for hard evidence and a compelling story. His close assistant, Theodora, is a lonely and fragile young woman familiar with ghostly events; and Luke, the future heir to Hill House.
