The Frogs Book by Aristophanes (Farsi Edition)

Description

The Frogs by Aristophanes is one of the greatest comedies of ancient Greek theatre and a celebrated example of Old Comedy. First performed in Athens in 405 BC, the play combines humor, satire, mythology, literary criticism, and social commentary in a story centered on Dionysus, the god of theatre. Concerned about the decline of tragedy in Athens, Dionysus travels to the Underworld with his servant Xanthias in search of the recently deceased playwright Euripides. After a series of comic adventures, Dionysus encounters Euripides and Aeschylus, who engage in a lively contest over which poet represents the greater tradition of tragic drama. Dionysus is eventually forced to judge between them and chooses Aeschylus to return to the world of the living. Beyond its comedy and imaginative journey into Hades, The Frogs offers a sharp examination of theatre, poetry, literary taste, and the social role of art. Through the debate between Aeschylus and Euripides, Aristophanes explores what makes great literature and questions whether poets should entertain audiences, educate society, or provide guidance during times of political and social crisis.
