"Tehran-Berlin" is a music album by Alireza Mashayekhi that explores the concept of "passage," a recurring theme in Mashayekhi's work. This notion of transition becomes the central theme of his ninth symphony, "My World," which addresses the cultural interplay between East and West. Mashayekhi's piece "Tehran-Berlin, Opus 92," composed in 2019, highlights this dialogue by symbolically referencing his two favorite cities, Tehran and Berlin. The composition blends Iranian modalities, European tonalities, and thematic phrases. The trumpet's role in the piece evokes the sounds of "Taziyeh," a form of Iranian passion play, reminiscent of the melodies Mashayekhi heard in Tehran's streets during his childhood. This work was commissioned by the Ensemble United Berlin and recorded in the same year as part of the "Tehran Travelers Festival".
