"Saadi in Love" by Homa Katouzian explores the romantic poetry of one of the greatest poets in Persian literary history, Saadi. Saadi is renowned for his profound impact, even during his lifetime, with his work being quoted by a Turkish resident of Anatolia and sung by Chinese singers thirty years after his death, despite their lack of understanding of the language. Saadi is a master of the ghazal, a lyrical poetic form in Persian literature, rivaled only by Hafez and, to a lesser extent, Rumi. However, his ghazals have often been overshadowed by his more famous works, Golestan and Bustan. In this book, Katouzian, in his fourth publication on Saadi, focuses exclusively on Saadi's ghazals, presenting 78 of them along with their English translations.
