"Legend" is a young adult dystopian novel written by Marie Lu. It was first published in 2011 and is the first book in the "Legend" trilogy. The society is divided into two classes: the elite and wealthy citizens of the Republic and the poor, oppressed citizens. The novel follows two main characters, June Iparis and Daniel "Day" Wing. June is a prodigy who scored a perfect 1500 on her Trial, a test that determines a person's future in the Republic. Day is a notorious criminal who is the prime suspect in the murder of June's brother. However, as June investigates her brother's death, she discovers the truth about Day and the dark secrets of the Republic.
