It is often said that books find their readers, but sometimes they need someone to point them in the right direction. The bookstore that carried the name Stadt Tor, although more than three blocks away from the city gate—or rather what remained of it, which most citizens considered a bold piece of art—was very old, having been built and expanded through various historical periods. Ornate walls and decorative plasterwork stood alongside plain walls with right angles. Inside, there were several red plastic stands full of DVDs and CDs, either placed next to metal shelves of graphic novels or beside sleek glass display cases filled with globes, or alongside elegant wooden bookshelves filled with books. In this bookstore, they also sold board games, stationery, tea, and recently even chocolates.
